Ridgefield K-12 Humanities Supervisor, Dr Alison Villanueva

Alison Villanueva works closely with all stakeholders of the Ridgefield Public Schools in operationalizing curriculum and learning opportunities for the students of Ridgefield. She collaboratively develops, implements, and refines assessment, instruction, and curricular standards to provide a framework for the most current and contemporary teaching and learning experiences across the disciplines. Prior to coming to Ridgefield, Dr. Villanueva was Co-Founder and Director of Studies in Educational Innovation in the department of Arts and Humanities at Teachers College, Columbia University. She specialized in global research and system-wide transformative change through professional development.  Her research interests include: systemic change, digital/mulitiliteracies, inclusive and democratic pedagogy, teacher learning, and (W)orld Literature. She co-founded the Global Learning Alliance (GLA) an International consortium of K-12 school and university partnerships focused on innovative teaching and learning practices as she and/or her team traveled across the globe to high-performing school districts in Singapore, Australia, Finland, Shanghai,China, Canada, etc.
Dr. Villanueva has been a principal, instructional coach, classroom teacher, and educational consultant and continues to draw on her many experiences in the field of education to inform her work at the district level today. She is an adjunct instructor at Sacred Heart University in the Educational Leadership Program and earned her Ph.D. in English Education at Teachers College, Columbia University; M.Phil from Columbia University; M.A. in Literacy from NYU; and her Honors B.A. from York University in Toronto, Canada where she grew up.
